NARRATIVE: Great walking day. Lots of up and downs. One major down before entering Lauzerte.  Glad it wasn't raining or slippery. Staying in one of my top gites - hope it lives up to my memory.

    Love the pictures and the descriptions of gastronomic delights. Brings back good memories! How is the rib pain? I bet you are sad that your adventure is almost over. I'm in England. The baby will probably come tomorrow. I'll send pictures. Take care.

06 September 2024 - Pre walk thoughts...

In March 2024, I suddenly realized that my U.S. passport had expired the previous month. I have had a current passport since 1978, so this left me feeling anxious. Not having a passport meant that I couldn’t just pick up and go somewhere, especially now that I live in Mexico. I immediately scheduled the earliest appointment possible at the consulate general in Guadalajara to apply for a renewal. When I returned home after my May appointment, I decided to scan airfares to Europe... just out of curiosity. I was pretty sure it was a waste of time because I had no doubt that a future trip would be price prohibitive. To my surprise, I was able to put together a round-trip ticket from Guadalajara, Mexico to Barcelona, Spain for $669.00 USD! The flights were in September and allowed me to stay abroad for just over 3 weeks, which is ideal.  I had no choice. I had to book it. 10 September 2024 -Airport Day!

I can't believe my departure date has finally arrived. It seemed like it took forever to get here. I'm sitting in the Guadalajara Airport - got another hour and a half before my flight to Dallas, Texas. From there, I fly to Madrid and then on to Barcelona.   Unfortunately, I'm guessing that I only slept 2 hours last night, so I'm already exhausted. The airport p.a. system is super loud and annoying.  No way to catch a few zzz's. Not to mention the fixed armrests on the seating that keep people from stretching out. I'm sure my itinerary may sound complicated,  but it's probably the easiest schedule I had in a long time. I think it's less than 13 hours of flight time. I should be in Barcelona by 17:30 on the 11th. So, I got busted at security for having my poles collapsed inside my backpack.  Had to break out the fractured knee cap x-ray and tell them that they were a walking aid.
