Today was a lot harder than expected. 

We arrived on time at the Lyon bus station. I walked next door to the train station, bought a bottle of water, 2 cheese sandwiches and a train ticket for Le Puy en Velay. All went exactly as planned.

Got to Le Puy at 10:30, walked into town to buy a new guide book and picked up a shell for my pack. Was on my way by 11:00. 

The weather was threatening rain earlier, but the sun was out and it was a great day for walking. A bit chilly and quite windy.  My plan was to stop and eat my second sandwich in St. Christophe, but I was sweaty from walking and thought I would freeze to death with the cold wind so after a 15 minute break, I pushed on. 

I got to the gite (hostal for pilgrims) just after 15:00, not only tired but sleepy, having not sleep well for the past three days. So grateful they had a bed available since I didn't make a reservation.  I had stayed here before, the first time I walked 11 years ago.

Lots of up and downs. One major down before entering Lauzerte.  Glad it wasn't raining or slippery. Staying in one of my top gites - hope it lives up to my memory.  Entering Moncuq after leaving gite. The tower is the only remnant of the medieval fortress. Touching the butt brings good luck.
